How to integrate the akenza IoT Starter Kit
Utilize the easy plug & play IoT Starter Kit of akenza to gain deeper insights into the different building areas in your facility. This kit provides everything you need to start your IoT journey!
Get started by creating the Data Flows for your devices. Data Flows define how the device data is processed and stored in akenza. As the IoT Starter Kit is equipped with a Swisscom LPN LoRa Gateway, make sure to use the Swisscom LPN LoRa device connector.
The IoT Starter Kit includes a Multitech Conduit LPN Gateway. To start the gateway, the following steps are required:
- 1.Make sure the gateway is located in a central area where you want to run your use case
- 2.Plugin the power adapter
- 3.Wait a few minutes until the LED for Cell and Lora flashes.
The gateway is now fully operational and you can continue by powering your sensors.
To insert the batteries, remove the back panel of the sensor with a small screwdriver.
The battery is a 3.6V Lithium Battery (ER14505). You can use one battery, however, it is recommended that you use two for best performance and longer battery life. Use battery slot A if only one battery is used. Once inserted, close the cover of the device. The sensor is now ready to use.
Important: Using batteries other than the ones provided may result in loss of performance and battery life, and also damage the device. Make sure to dispose of it properly, observing environmental protection rules.

The battery is a 3.6V Lithium Battery (ER14505). Mount the back panel on the surface using adhesive tape and attach the cover to the back panel.

The battery is already inserted into the device. To put the device into operation mode follow these steps:
- Remove the back of the sensor with a screwdriver.
- Hold the button on the back for 3 seconds to switch the sensor from sleep mode to "active" mode.
- Then press the button once to put the sensor into test mode (only the blue LED is on).
- The sensor is now ready for use and can be mounted.
The sensor transmits in test mode on maximum strength, so it can search the network and join. After 20 minutes, the sensor automatically switches from test to active mode.
Important: If the sensor is mounted on the wall, it should always be mounted at the height of the head area, as Air Quality data should be recorded at this height. If the sensor is mounted on the ceiling, the measurement is primarily concerned with the occupancy of a zone, so the sensor should then be mounted as centrally as possible above the furniture of the zone to be detected. The motion sensor has a larger angle in the length of the sensor, therefore the longer side of the sensor should be aligned with the longer side of the zone.
This device is ready to use. To turn on the device, slide the switch located on the lower edge of the device to the On position. The display of the device lights up accordingly.
The battery can be charged via USB Micro.
Now with all the devices set up on akenza, you can start with applying business logic to your device data by setting up rules.
Learn more about rules:
- Ambient monitoring: Set up environmental use cases or send notifications on dissatisfactory measurements.
- Service-on-Demand: Create service/support solutions to trigger ticket or support requests.
- Desk occupancy: Measure desk utilization of shared desks, visualize the data & optimize the workflow.
